Thu, April 21, 4:15 to 5:45pm PDT (4:15 to 5:45pm PDT), Manchester Grand Hyatt, Floor: 2nd Level, Harbor Tower, Balboa B

Abstract

We reviewed the recent (2010-2021) literature base on Black parental involvement in special education to identify positive values, actions, and priorities of these families. Results yielded eleven articles that identified parental assets of social and cultural wealth, parental actions of advocacy and protection from discrimination, and high parental aspirations of Black caregivers with children with disabilities. Includes implications for practice, research and policy.
