Cultivating Social Change Through Theory: Analytic Processes in the Structured (Un)Structure of Post-Intentional Phenomenology

Abstract

In this paper I discuss the challenge and opportunity of engaging in the structured (un)structured analysis process used in post-intentional phenomenology that is purposefully centered around social change (Vagle, 2018). I explore how theories selected for the study provided a pathway to dive into the entangled, messy and often tacit realities of the phenomenon while also seeking to transform it. Cultivating analytical processes that explicitly commit to social change and embraces a methodologically open—yet still delineated—means to explore phenomenon in educational research towards equity, provides an important opportunity to expand the boundaries of the analytic process.
