From Labs to Classrooms: Neuroimaging Studies and Reading Instruction

Abstract

This poster explores neuroimaging studies of reading alongside studies of reading instruction that do not involve neuroimaging. We will illuminate the intersections of these two bodies of work, neuroscience and reading instruction. We attempt to bridge recent findings from neuroimaging and current research on reading to further the conversation between neuroscientists and educators. Advances in brain imaging are proliferating as technology and innovation provide scientists with new tools and methods. Information about the brain and the reading process are increasingly attracting the attention of educators. To engage with these ideas we explain how reading neuroscience can provide insights into the complex and multidimensional reading process that has been explored through reading research.
