Exploring Teacher Inclusion in Diverse Environments: Cross-Curricular Skills in Global Citizenship Education in Japan and South Korea

Abstract

The school is becoming growingly diverse, with many countries seeking to enhance teacher attitude toward inclusion(TAI) to effectively teach multicultural students by offering the method of teaching cross-curricular skills such as creativity, critical thinking and problem solving in Global Citizenship Education(TCSG). Using the Teaching and Learning International Survey 2018, we examine whether the experience in TCSG enhances TAI, as well as whether TAI mediates the relationship between TCSG and teaching in diverse environments(TDE). Given Japan and South Korea’s ties to the world society through international organizations and their activism in the diffusion of global citizenship education in recent years, one can predict that developments in citizenship education in both countries would be likely to correspond to the global trend closely.
