Toward Internationally Shared Principles of Quality Teacher Education

Abstract

This study is an examination of models, research, and standards (e.g., InTASC Standards, T-Standards, and MAP model) utilized in teacher education in three countries (US, Hong Kong, and Finland) that together suggest internationally shared principles of quality teacher education that can inform and ground ongoing international research and practice. Four domains (Context, Orientations, Pedagogy, and Well-Being) were identified, and multiple principles defined for each domain. These shared principles of quality teacher education can be used as a foundation for international collaborative research—research that deliberately accounts for the varied contexts of local work while also allowing the possibility to meaningfully research beyond it.
