Leaders' Triple Role for Sustainable Data Use With Data Teams

Abstract

Data use is important in schools to inform teachers’ and school leaders’ decisions for improving student learning (e.g., Marsh & Farrell, 2015). Data teams help school staff members develop data use skills (Lai & McNaughton, 2016; Poortman & Schildkamp, 2016) and realize school improvement (Dogan & Adams, 2018). Sustaining the work is challenging, however (Hubers, 2016). Sustainability is achieved when data team’s core components are evident in organizational routines (Prenger et al., 2020). More evidence on the enactment of leadership for (sustained) professional learning is desired (e.g., Leithwood et al., 2020; Prenger et al., 2020). This study filled this gap by gaining in-depth understanding of leaders’ role at schools that work sustainably on data use with data teams.
