In addition to stabilizing Black communities, the educators in these schools fostered a sense of belonging for children, which was vital in Black students’ achievement. However, the role and purpose of predominantly Black K-12 schools in the education of Black children today are being called into question, demonstrated by an epidemic of predominantly Black K-12 public school closures in U.S. cities
