"Race Talk" and "Diversity Work" in Physical Education Teacher Education

Wed, April 20, 12:00 to 6:00pm PDT (12:00 to 6:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Floor: Level, Room 1B

Abstract

After a brief introduction, the authors will share how they negotiated both racialized lived experiences in the academy for the two Black researchers, along with the privileges and discomforts of whiteness from the White researcher. From there, they will address some of the specific recommendations based on their collective research identity that they feel would move the field forward in terms of addressing racial inequity. Finally, they will divide the audience into small group discussions with participants to reflexively consider questions of how and where we could all engage in meaningful “race talk” and “diversity work” within our PETE programs, scholarship, and professional lives.
