"Acting Locally; Thinking Globally": Building an International RPP to Explore Climate Change and Student Voice

• In Event: Harnessing the Power of Research-Practice Partnerships to Tackle Inequities: An Exploration of Possibilities and Pitfalls During a Pandemic

Abstract

This international RPP, focusing on promoting youth civic engagement in relation to climate change and implemented during the pandemic, emerged from Children’s Neighbourhoods Scotland, a place based RPP in Scotland (Chapman et al., 2019) that draws on a capabilities approach (Sen, 1985) and the idea of building a networked learning system pioneered in a Chilean RPP (Madrid Miranda and Chapman, 2021).
The international RPP uses the conceptual framework of RPPs (Coburn et al, 2021). Researchers and practitioners from Chile and Scotland are developing an international collaboration, exchange and dialogue among students on common climate concerns and supporting the professional development of teaching staff and partners around the inclusion of environmental issues into the pedagogical curriculum during the pandemic when schools were in various states of lockdown.
