• In Event: Effective Teachers' Communicative Strategies When Working With Linguistically Diverse Learners

Abstract

We will share the IRN’s past and current cross-cultural research findings. We will provide an overview the IRN’s purpose and research on teachers’ communicative strategies in Israel, South Africa, South Korea, and the United States and describe our cross-cultural research on the relationship between teachers’ preparation to work with linguistically diverse and the strategies they employ in the classroom. Survey data from across three countries were examined identifying a range of strategies that teachers use in their instruction to help diverse language learners be successful. Finally, we will present our current research on teachers as learners to improve their communicative strategies to engage diverse learners in their literacy instruction and practice-based professional development models to enhance teacher learning and instructional changes.
