Developing Informed Data Requests to Study Equitable Education Systems

Abstract

The U.S. Department of Education’s Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) promotes the use of a common vocabulary to increase the capacity to link data across multiple sources with high confidence. The CEDS tools, Align and Connect, were designed to aid researchers in defining data requests and translating the request for the data systems they want to access. During this workshop, attendees will explore how these tools can help (1) connect data elements to their research question, (2) match those elements to the data sources of interest to develop out the data request, and (3) support the future development of CEDS through its open source community. The workshop will be highly interactive with a demonstration followed by attendee replication.
