Session Type: Structured Poster Session
This structured poster session shares research from a range of teacher education programs at four different universities spanning the United States. Researchers share related findings based on implementation of Hollins’ (2011, 2015b) framework for learning teaching as an interpretive process (L-TIP). The L-TIP approach engages teacher candidates in careful, contextualized, student-centered analysis of teaching, focusing on learners’ responses rather than apprenticeship of a mentor teacher and reflection on universal, best, or high-leverage teaching practices. Each poster demonstrates facets of the L-TIP framework applied in contextualized ways within urban teacher education programs in order to disrupt cycles of educational inequity, contend with anti-Blackness in urban teacher education and schooling broadly, and meet the needs of historically excluded and dehumanized P–12 learners.
