Session Type: Symposium
This symposium reports on how a system of practical measures, routines and representations was used in three research-practice partnerships to support the implementation of instructional improvement strategies in middle-grades mathematics at scale. The practical measures assess (a) students’ perceptions of key aspects of the classroom learning environment that research indicates matter for students’ learning; and (b) teachers’ perceptions of aspects of professional development that research has linked to teachers’ learning. Papers will address issues relevant to others who are developing and using practical measures to support instructional improvement, including the contributions of the measures to such efforts (e.g., coaching, collaborative professional development); methods for designing tools such as data visualization dashboards; and conceptualizing validity specific to practical measurement.
