Session Summary

Key Issues in Induction and Mentoring of NQT: Theory, Policy, and Practice

Mon, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Research on Teacher Induction Virtual Paper Session Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium focusses on the ecosystems of induction and mentoring. The interdependence of macro-, meso- and micro processes at the national level is highlighted, as well as niches within the systems. This is illustrated with theoretical, policy and empirical research from Nordic countries, Portugal, Austria and The Netherlands. The symposium aims to discuss whether the ecological framework can help understand diverse induction and mentoring practices around the globe, if it captures the essence and if it can harbor sustainable induction practices. Are there limitations to the framework put forward, considering the presented national studies?
