Abstract

This session provides a multi-angled critical examination of Black women and girls’ intersectional experiences within education, and specifically the teacher pipeline. The presentations offer multiple vantage points to present the lived experiences of Black girls and women, which ultimately illustrate their full trajectory through the teaching profession. The session flows from examining the educational experiences of P-12 Black girls, then moves into how those experiences contribute to and/or mirror Black women’s experiences as pre-service, in-service and post-service teachers. Collectively, the studies in this session contribute to a greater body of knowledge and praxis that inform what needs to be transformed in order to better support and sustain Black girls and women throughout their journeys through school and teaching.
