Sat, April 23, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), Manchester Grand Hyatt, Floor: 3rd Level, Seaport Tower, Hillcrest CD

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session seeks to explore new possibilities of a classroom assessment system that is equitably consequential. researchers are increasingly investigating various approaches to improve a classroom assessment system with careful attention to the intersections of instruction, assessment, opportunities to learn and equity. This work is grounded in a critical awareness about the role of assessment systems that function to reinforce or transform inequitable and unjust forms of learning at schools. This symposium brings together nine “citizen-scholars” who have worked with practitioners to transform classroom assessment systems toward expansive learning spaces. This session directly responds to this year’s theme, “Cultivating Equitable Education System for the 21st Century” by attending to one aspect of the educational system—a classroom assessment system in schools.
