Session Type: Symposium
Although anti-Asian racism has been on rise for more than a year, the public is slow to connect the dots and the educational system has yet to respond effectively. To date, none of the state-level Departments of Education have published any guidelines to prevent racially motivated anti-Asian bullying (Choimorrow, 2021). Therefore, it is urgent to raise awareness of anti-Asian racism. In an attempt to explore approaches of anti-racism education, this symposium brings together three studies that closely examine narratives about Asian and Asian Americans, framed by different critical theoretical perspectives. From the study on personal experiences to media and literature analysis, findings indicate that educators use critical approaches to empower educators and students against racism.
