Discussing Race, Ethnicity, and Culture While Teaching Educational Psychology

Abstract

To cultivate equitable education systems discussions about race, ethnicity, and culture (REC) are crucial. Graduate students and scholars at all career stages may not feel adequately prepared to facilitate dialogues about REC. Therefore the proposed symposium aims to provide recommendations, strategies, and resources for having REC dialogues. The symposium will consist of three presentations by a panel of five scholars who have continuously facilitated conversations about REC and conduct research that centers REC. Each panelist will draw from teaching and research experiences to provide recommendations for how to have REC dialogue while teaching. Each panelist will present for 15 minutes and a question-and-answer session will follow. The session should provide timely professional development to promote equitable education systems.
