Building Equitable Pathways for Youth Voting Through K–12 Education

Abstract

This session presents three studies from university-based research groups that consider how K-12 educators are teaching about voting and elections in their classrooms, what they can do to bolster these efforts, and the frequency with which it occurs in schools. In particular, these studies examine how the sociopolitical context of local schools impact students’ access to high quality instruction on voting and elections as well as the extent to which such instruction is equitably provided and presented. Audience members will be given the chance to engage with and provide feedback to presenters in small groups for the final 30 minutes of the session.
