Dreaming Out Loud: Critical Race Theory and Social Studies Futures

Abstract
Racism remains endemic within the National Council for the Social Studies and its College and Faculty University Assembly and in social studies education broadly. This session highlights major themes and topics from the forthcoming edited volume Dreaming Out Loud: Critical Race Theory and Social Studies Futures, the first collection of writings about critical race theory in the field of social studies since Gloria Ladson-Billings’ landmark volume was published in 2003. Presenters will outline the three sections of the book followed by a group dialogue about the role of critical race theory in social studies education and research today amidst national backlash against the theory.
