Abstract

In this session, we engage with the concept of identity capitalism and its application to higher education. We focus on how identity capitalism informs our approach to addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in higher education. In this session, we (1) introduce and review identity capitalism and consider how it works and builds on other bodies of scholarship; (2) consider how identity capitalism manifests in higher education practice, research, funding, and evaluative logic; and (3) consider how to overcome the practice of identity capitalism and the harm induced by identity capitalism.
