Resetting From the Margins: Humanizing Educational Experiences With Racially and Linguistically Minoritized Students and Communities

Abstract

This symposium explores how students, teachers, and communities have worked to reimagine learning and equity throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing this year’s conference theme of cultivating equitable education systems (AERA, 2022). The symposium centers on equity and justice for racially and linguistically minoritized students, families, and communities by advocating for bi/multilingualism, bi/multiliteracy, and academic achievement, as well as the fourth goal of critical consciousness and sociopolitical awareness. The papers in this symposium report on the collaboration among families, teachers, administrators, and researchers, and have implications for how such collaborations can be leveraged to address the societal inequities that impact the schooling experiences and well-being of minoritized communities.
