Session Summary

Examining Facilitation in Research-Practice Partnerships

Sat, April 23, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), Manchester Grand Hyatt, Floor: 3rd Level, Harbor Tower, Hillcrest AB

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

In this symposium, three research teams present on their work examining, interrogating, and improving the practice of facilitation in research-practice partnerships (RPPs). We focus on facilitation as a response to Coburn and Penuel’s (2016) call to examine strategies in partnership work, particularly as it pertains to the implementation and use of tools, routines, and strategies. Focusing on enactment of partnership work, with facilitation as one dimension of enactment, is critical for advancing the field in understanding facilitation practices that are productive for partnerships. How partnership work is enacted, performed, and facilitated is an area requiring further research. The authors in this symposium present on the varied ways they examine facilitation in RPPs.
