Abstract

This panel is a gathering of Black, Blackened, Brown, Afro-Indigenous, and Ch’ixi lives of Abiayala and the Caribbean answering the call to dismantle systems that have propagated anti-Blackness in order to (re)member habitable educational environments that sustain Black lives. We turn to Abiayala and the Caribbean, two geo-political regions often underexamined in matters of anti-Black racism and/in education. The papers are transdisciplinary perspectives building understandings of anti-Black formations in the region traceable in the specific modes in which young people are socialized from the home to the classroom. Conceptually the panel is guided by the thought of Black elders and ancestors of the regions living in various geographies within and beyond the regions and across times.
