Exploring Possibilities of Alternative Study Abroad Programming: International Project Design and Implementation for Educational Equity

Tue, April 26, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, Floor: South Building, Level 1, Temecula Ballroom 4

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This international symposium reports on four distinct international projects that offer insight to how we can reimagine and redesign traditional study abroad programs. Critical teacher education scholars consider how international exchanges must grapple with the historical disparities and unequal access experienced by historically minoritized university students. By offering study abroad alternatives that address educational equity when planning opportunities for travel and study, this symposium offers lessons for transformational learning experiences for teacher candidates and educators in local and global contexts.
