African Diasporic Theory and Practice for Educational Equity in the 21st Century

Abstract

Educational equity on a global level requires restructuring systems often developed to sort and stratify. Supporting educational equity in African diasporic contexts requires addressing embedded racism and coloniality in educational systems. This session involves in-depth discussion of educational systems and practices with scholars and practitioners from global Africa, and invites in-depth audience participation in the Bantaba format. A Bantaba is an African community gathering around a theme allowing for a sequence of both small group and full community discussion to gradually and iteratively arrive at new understandings and pathways forward. This Bantaba draws on a structure conceived by the Africa SIG from the Comparative and International Education Society in 2016.
