Wed, April 20, 10:00am to 1:00pm PDT (10:00am to 1:00pm PDT), Division Virtual Rooms, Division K Virtual Pre-Conference Room 1

Session Type: Pre-Conference Mentoring Session

Abstract

Aligned with the 2022 annual meeting theme, this year's Early Career Faculty Pre-conference centers dialogue around the tension, stress, and harm that pre-tenure production expectations can have on scholars who enter academia with equity and justice-orientations, as well as possibilities for thriving in this work. This interactive seminar will share insights from equity-focused scholars who have successfully navigated promotion and tenure while developing research, teaching, and service that advances the well-being of non-dominant communities. They will share strategies they employ to stay whole and true as they navigate systems that often opposed to their epistemologies, ontologies, and purpose. This seminar will be an opportunity to dialogue, socialize, and share with other new faculty and facilitators with the goals of: 1) supporting new equity and justice-oriented teaching and teacher education faculty; 2) building community and equity-oriented professional networks within Division K.
