GSC Session. Writing in Relation: Collaborative Writing as Community-Based Epistemologies

Mon, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, Floor: North Building, Lobby Level, San Diego Ballroom A

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

The academy has an enduring tendency to isolate the act of writing from the community since there are certain expectations of what makes a researcher a reputable scholar. Writing in Relation is a practice of community-based knowledge sharing that disturbs the normalcy of single-authorship and the over-prioritization of independent scholarship. Grounded in Indigenous-based methods and community action research, this panel brings together graduate students and faculty to discuss the importance of writing through relationality. We urge the academy to take seriously how Writing in Relation is a robust and powerful way to engage in research. We invite everyone, especially those working with communities, to join our discussion.
