Campus Collaboration: Creating a University-Connected History Curriculum Using Input from 4th and 8th Grade Teachers

Sat, November 9, 10:15 to 11:45am, Hyatt Regency Greenville, Floor: 2, THINK TANK @ NOMA

Abstract

This two-layer study explores a researcher’s experiences as they develop a university-connected history unit using input from 4th grade generalist and 8th grade social studies teachers statewide. The curriculum uses three historic sites on the campus of a southeastern state university as a lens to teach state social studies standards, and strives to empower teachers to help their students make historical meaning through classroom activities and visits to hard history-connected historic spaces on campus.
