Academic Misfits: De/Constructing Academic Un/Belonging through Guardians of the Galaxy

Abstract

During Spring 2020, unlikely heroes banded together during “Holding Space Happy Hour” to form an academic misfit community. This community became meaningful during uncertain times, and supported us at differing points in our academic careers. We argue that academic institutional structures are unsustainable for the human experience, and this project/community allowed us to de/construct our un/belonging and re-write our body (curriculum). This project enlivens our curricular understandings of the bod(ies) in sociocultural foundations in education and academia.
