We center our conceptual paper with the question Vaughan (2020) poses as a conference theme, how can we as scholars participate in “translating theory into practice and, alternately, allowing practice to inform theory” (p. 6)? Our courses were perfect for this venture, “Analysis of Educational Theory Formation” and “Special Topics in Educational Leadership.” Hence, our purpose was to problematize theory and practice. We moved in/out of contradictions in our efforts to help doctoral students to become liberatory in their intentions to provide leadership in schools.
