Multiple Presenter Session: Panel
The panel will highlight key findings on a three-year partnership between a public university, a statewide teachers labor union, and local school districts in the metro Detroit area to prepare racial equity warriors. It will focus on the goals, components, and impact of the partnership’s three key initiatives that work with underrepresented high school students interested in becoming school teachers, with current educators receiving training to enhance their cultural competency, and with students and teachers in a year-long mentorship program. The presenters will draw from critical race and intersectional frameworks that address the ways race is tied to other vectors of power and differences, such as class, gender, and sexuality. They will utilize documentary analysis of qualitative and quantitative data to share accomplishments, challenges, and lessons learned from this multi-sector partnership.
