Session Submission Summary

Centering Black Educational Knowledges in Educational Leadership Preparation and Praxis

Thu, November 7, 10:15 to 11:45am, Hyatt Regency Greenville, Floor: 1, REDBUD A

Multiple Presenter Session: Panel

Abstract

The panel includes three educational leadership faculty at three different universities (PWI’s) in the United States. Each presenter will discuss innovative models that use Black educational history to prepare educational leaders for equity-centered leadership. As faculty in educational leadership preparation programs, we present these models as a way to move candidates - and ourselves - from knowledge and awareness of Black educational history to action and advocacy with this history in mind. The primary throughline of the session is how centering Black educational histories related to equity, improvement, and community can support aspiring school leaders in achieving equitable, socially-just schools.
