Abstract

Asian diaspora educational workers explore Asian diasporas as theories, methodologies, and practices. Drawing from a wide array of decolonizing and deimperializing theoretical, methodological, and practical traditions, Asian diaspora inquirers purposefully work against orientalized, imperialized, racialized, gendered, classed, and other intersected oppressions. We advocate that Asian diaspora people name their predicaments, tell their stories, ask hard questions, and contest deficit narratives that further marginalize their Asian diaspora existence. Drawing upon a wide array of decolonizing and deimperializing theoretical, methodological, and practical traditions, we challenge imperialized and colonized ways of thinking about, engaging in, interpreting, and writing about the Asian diaspora experience. Our interdisciplinary, multiperspectival, and intersectional explorations consist of three sections: Asian diaspora as theories, Asian diaspora as methodologies, and Asian diaspora as practices.
