This presentation highlights the process of collaborative analysis through Pláticas, understood as a dialectical approach (Fierros & Delgado-Bernal, 2016). Latinx critical scholars use Pláticas as a dialogic pathway for generating cultural understandings, recognizing participants as knowledge holders. This research examines the initial stage of the Hoover-Dempsey & Sandler Model (1995) of parental involvement, guided by the question: What unique cultural features do Latinx mothers share with schools to foster meaningful and authentic parental involvement? Grounded in testimonio as a critical qualitative research approach, this study draws from LatCrit and Chicana/Latina feminist theories and epistemologies (Delgado-Bernal et al., 2023). To explore these dynamics, this project presents the narratives of three immigrant mothers, offering insight into their experiences and perspectives.
