What’s worth needing? An Introspective and Curricular Exploration

Sat, November 1, 12:00 to 1:00pm, Casa Esencia, S. Dining Room

Abstract

In this time of political and social upheaval, individuals and communities are called upon to learn (and relearn) to understand ourselves and our world. To what extent can exploring what’s worth needing better enable us to reexamine the extent to which we are being and becoming the human beings (i.e., educators, neighbors, citizens, parents, children) we aspire to be? The expansive scholarship of William H. Schubert, Caleb Azumah Nelson’s (2021) novel Open Water, and an assortment of relevant critical voices (i.e., writers, thinkers, educators, philosophers) are used to help us explore values and truths that most represent our authentic selves.
