Drawing from Latin American queer studies, queers of color (QOC) epistemologies, joterÃa studies, the author uses his transnational mariposa consciousness to document the narratives of self-identified gay men and trans women in Panamá. As part of a qualitative research study, the author uses autoethnography to analyze how being born different and a lack of supportive system, LGBT individuals in Panama become victims of homophobia, discrimination, heteronormativity, and hate crime.
