Building Movements to Resist the New Right’s Framework in Higher Education

Fri, October 31, 2:30 to 4:00pm, Hotel Albuquerque, Alvarado G

Abstract

This presentation centers on the attacks on higher education, evidenced by Utah’s newly-passed HB 265, which seeks to cut instructional funding and reallocate it to other programs within individual universities. The AFT Utah College Council, comprised of regional university chapter presidents, fought to organize while increasing membership and visibility of the organization during the legislative session and through the beginning of the law’s implementation at their institutions. This session provides attendees with information about the reinvestment bill being touted as a ‘nationwide model’ for higher education and how unions and other organizations may be able to effectively push back.
