This discussion examines the role of Black parents as co-creators in educational engagement by applying the framework of critical consciousness. Traditional models of parental involvement often marginalize Black parents, reinforcing system justification and deficit-based narratives. Through critical reflection, motivation, and action, Black parents challenge these systems to become co-creators in their children’s educational experiences. Through the stories of vulnerability of eleven Black mothers, the expense of exhaustion and peace is illuminated, Black parents navigate these barriers and how their resistance acts as a form of advocacy and transformative engagement.
