This research examines how doctoral students at the [Blank] School of Engineering perceive and understand ethics within engineering research and practice. Although all incoming doctoral students complete a required course on Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (ENGG 700), engagement with ethics-related initiatives beyond coursework varies. Ethical challenges in engineering can have significant societal and professional impacts, highlighting the importance of integrating ethics comprehensively into engineering education. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study combines qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys to investigate students’ ethical perspectives, reasoning, and preparedness. By addressing gaps in current knowledge, this research aims to contribute to the development of engineering professionals who are technically proficient and ethically responsible, capable of navigating complex moral issues in their careers.
