Korean Linguistic Use in Korean American Children's Literature

Abstract

In immigrant-themed and multicultural children’s and adolescent’s literature, it is
common to incorporate the heritage language. In Korean American immigrant themed children’s
and adolescent literature, there is a wide range of Korean linguistics integrated into the texts.
However, the Korean linguistic uses all have different functions and purposes within the text and
beg the question of why Korean linguistics is used. In addition, the use of Korean can perpetuate
themes, ideas, and issues within the literature.
