Radical Neighborliness: Reimagining University-School Partnerships

Abstract

This panel will examine three innovative university-school partnerships in Detroit that embody “radical neighborliness” as a framework for creating equitable, democratic educational spaces. These partnerships (TeachDETROIT, Metro Detroit TRUE Project, and Archives in the Classroom and Community) directly engage with the conference theme through their focus on reconstructing educational relationships, ensuring diverse representation in teaching and curriculum, and addressing historical educational inequities as a form of reparative practice in the largest majority-Black city in the United States.
