Dismantling the Master’s House: Examining Teacher Perceptions, Reclaiming STEM, and Transforming Teacher Preparation

Fri, October 31, 10:15 to 11:45am, Hotel Albuquerque, Alvarado F

Multiple Presenter Session: Panel

Abstract

This panel will confront systemic inequities through three critical interventions: examining how white supremacist thinking shapes diverse teachers’ perceptions of students in urban schools; reimagining STEM education through authentic relationships that challenge false dichotomies between rigor and cultural relevance; and deconstructing traditional teacher preparation programs to build innovative alternatives. Drawing on qualitative research, narrative inquiry, and program evaluation, the panelists will reject superficial solutions in favor of transformative frameworks requiring institutional reconstruction, authentic representation, and substantive reparations. This panel will provide concrete strategies for dismantling oppressive educational paradigms while constructing liberatory alternatives for marginalized communities. The presentations will challenge administrators, teacher educators, and policymakers to abandon incremental reforms and instead commit to genuine educational justice and truly emancipatory learning environments.
