Exploring How the Global-Local Happens: Challenging What is Sacred, Binary, and Taboo in Today's Social, Political and Educational Debates

Thu, October 30, 2:30 to 4:00pm, Hotel Albuquerque, Alvarado F

Multiple Presenter Session: Panel

Abstract

This panel examines how "the global-local happens" and offers analytical frameworks to interrogate what is sacred, binary, and taboo in contemporary social, political, and educational debates. In an era where "DEI" has become a slur and "anti-DEI" emerges as virtue signaling for those advocating for the reversal of integration while claiming justice, our work addresses three core purposes:(1) To examine how "the global-local happens" from multiple entry points, challenging the sacred/taboo binary dominating contemporary social, political and educational policy and politics (2) To expose the limitations and violences of research in attempting to understanding non-binary, fluid, and intersectional local-global educational realities (3) To propose alternative approaches to educational and societal debates that transcend polarized frameworks and contribute to nuanced understandings of educational justice in polarized societies
