Communion, Compassion, and the Color Purple: Enacting Social Justice in a Small Campus Community

Fri, October 31, 9:00 to 10:00am, Hotel Albuquerque, Weavers

Multiple Presenter Session: Panel

Abstract

This panel brings together three distinct perspectives from a single institution, sharing concrete experiences of successful anti-racist, intersectional educational projects and opening space to reflect on the dilemmas that continue to challenge us individually and collectively. Through conversations leading to the panel’s creation, the participants came to recognize the presence of a unifying thread in our work, one that not only creates a sense of reverent connection between each of our projects, but which also “refers us to the possible and the unimagined, the possibility of new ways, new knowledge, new relationships, new awareness.” In the spirit of sharing that connection and the energy it provides, we interrogate themes of communion, commitment, and the possibility of redemption.
