Multiple Presenter Session: Paper Session
The forthcoming “Handbook of Research Methods and Methodologies for the Social Sciences” (Routledge, 2025) promises to be an essential compendium for scholars, graduate students, and educators in fields of education and beyond. It covers foundational research techniques, quantitative and qualitative methodologies and also delves into mixed, community-based, and critical methodologies. This roundtable proposal centers on research that works against extraction of data from participants and communities. Focusing on relational, creative, and community-based approaches that include criticality and social critique, this group of presentations emphasizes emic approaches and the co-construction of knowledge in everyday life. Critical, collaborative, and creative approaches are shared by presenters and key turns and lessons learned addressed from each long-term project. As a whole, the roundtable emphasizes the importance of continual learning and adaptability in research practices, especially in efforts to address educational inequities.
