This talk will explore the uses of philology and source criticism in the field of talmudic literature. It will survey the current generation of scholars and the various ways in which philology plays a part in their scholarship. It will highlight the different approaches to the study of the texts, and the level to which philology and source criticism is being applied, the integration of such methods alongside other avenues of research, and the challenges such integration presents.
