Challenges and Opportunities of Yiddish OCR

Abstract

The Yiddish Book Center's Full-Text Search website includes nearly 11,000 Yiddish books made searchable with OCR. The Yiddish Book Center partnered with Assaf Urieli, developer of JOCHRE, an OCR application that uses machine learning to improve its analysis over time. The presentation will give a tour and demonstration of the search site and discuss the various challenges we have encountered in the process, as well as share a few gems we've found from the full-text search results.
