Linked Open Data: A Yiddish Trial

Abstract

A discrete collection of 85-90 Israeli Yiddish theater posters recently acquired by Stanford University provides an opportunity to experiment with semantic web technologies and develop a Linked Open Data (LOD) project. Wikidata is a free and open knowledge base, which supports the structured data underlying the various Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia and Wikcommons. Describing the individual posters using Wikidata ideally will help researchers and institutions understand and visualize the relationships between the posters and data related to the actors, authors, theaters, singers and other stage personnel; and more broadly the history of Yiddish theater.
