Developing a Research-Based Framework for School Integration and Improved K-12 Student Experiences in Housing Mobility Programs

Thursday, November 13, 1:45 to 3:15pm, Property: Hyatt Regency Seattle, Floor: 7th Floor, Room: 709 - Stillaguamish

Abstract

This presentation will focus on an innovative project designed to improve educational equity by using housiing mobility programs to promote school integration for students of color from low-income families. Housing mobility programs expand neighborhood options for families with housing vouchers who are interested in moving to low poverty areas with strong schools. This project is developing a range of tools to ensure families have information about school districts to help them identify areas with schools that best meet their children's needs. The toolkit will help programs provide access to better-resourced schools, address racial and economic segregation, and support students' academic success and sense of belonging.
